Elders Met The President to Discuss Recent Fighting

Mogadishu, (insidesomalia.org) - Negotiations are underway in Mogadishu and Baidoa between Somali Government and Elders from Hawiya Clan.

Both sides are discussing how to resolve recent intense fighting in Mogadishu and how to help people displaced by fighting between government troops backed by the Ethiopians against Islamist Insurgents.

Mr. Jama Seed, traditional elder from the Habargidir sub clan of Hawiya speaking to InsideSomalia.org said in Baidoa they had met with Somali Transitional Federal government President Abdulahi Yusuf.

‘The president show his willingness to end the fighting in the capital city and contain the humanitarian catastrophe caused the recent upheaval that forced large number of the residents in Mogadishu flee to safe heaven places” said Mr Seed.

There were also discussions in reopening main roads leading Mogadishu to allow people to return their homes and commercial activity to resume.

United Nations estimate that the number of the displaced people inside Somalia is about one million people living in a very critical situation without food, shelter and sanitation.

Many of Mogadishu’s population will find on their return that their homes and businesses have been damaged by recent fighting or have become temporary bases for Ethiopian and TFG forces.  It seems that Mogadishu population is stuck between rock and hard place with little or no support coming from Somali TFG or global community.
